One thing that has been present in North Carolina basketball through three games this season is their inability to create big leads, or even a lead, in the first 20 minutes of basketball.

In their first game against Elon, a much inferior team, they only held a 12-point lead at halftime. Last weekend, against Kansas, the top-ranked team in the country, they entered the break with a 15-point deficit. Tonight, they only broke away from the Americans, a team that lost to Siena and La Salle, by only 11 points at the break.
