The still untitled Spider-Man 4which recently enlisted Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm, is expected to begin filming next year, and while official plot details have yet to be released, the rumors have really started to pick up steam over the recent weeks.

We’ve heard that the film will introduce at least one new female lead, and according to Two Me – whose occasional scoops usually pay off – Madelyn Cline is ready for the role.

We have nothing more to say, but there is already speculation that Cline may be in the running to play Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, who is rumored to appear.

Felicity Jones played Hardy in The Amazing Spider-Man films, but never dressed as his costumed alter ego. Anne Hathaway – who played Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises – was set to debut as an earlier version of the character in Sam Raimi’s fourth film Spiderman film before the plug is unplugged.

Cline will probably be best known for her role as Sarah Cameron in the Netflix teen drama series, Outer Banksand she also played the role of Whiskey in Rian Johnson’s Glass onion: a mystery at daggers drawn.

Previous rumors claimed that Spider-Man 4 will introduce two new villains, and Tom Holland’s Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler will also have to face an old enemy in the form of Michael Keaton’s Vulture. Casting is reportedly underway for a new group of classmates for Peter.

Who could these new villains be? Another recent rumor claimed that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom would appear, so he could count as one. We’ve also heard that the film will feature a villain who hasn’t appeared in any previous live-action. Spiderman movie.

Sony’s Tom Rothman and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige reportedly had disagreements over the story of Spider-Man 4the latter hoping to reduce the elements of the Multiverse for a smaller adventure. Rothman, for his part, would like to capitalize on No way homeby bringing back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in their respective interpretations of Peter Parker.

More recently, we learned that both studios had opted for a mostly grounded story with some multiversal elements, although the film is still described as an “Avengers-level event.” There are also rumors that Spider-Man 4 will see Parker join forces with Venom to fight Knull, who will be introduced in Venom: The Last Dance.

Tom Holland will, of course, return as the MCU’s Spidey alongside Zendaya as MJ – although DeadlineCretton’s report that Cretton had accepted the position indicated that their agreements were not yet officially finalized.

“We have the best in the business working on whatever the story is,” Holland said in a recent interview. “But until we resolve it, we have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we have to make sure we do it right.”

No way home scribes Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are writing the screenplay. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 24, 2026.
