Around 4:08 a.m. Saturday, 911 dispatch received calls about shots fired at the Espero Rutland apartment complex at 1934 Rutland Drive, Corporal Matthew Nonweiler said. Officers arrived at the complex about five minutes after the call and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound inside one of the apartments. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of first responders, Nonweiler said.

According to Austin Police, this is an isolated incident and there is currently no threat to the community. Police also said homicide detectives have not identified any suspects at this time.

The Espero Rutland is a subsidized living apartment complex for people who have experienced homelessness.
