WhatsApp adds draft messages to automatically save unfinished messages

WhatsApp introduced a new feature called “Draft Messages,” designed to help users save unsent messages. This update eliminates the risk of losing incomplete messages, as any unfinished text is automatically saved as a draft.

The functionality is easily integrated into the application. When users start typing a message and leave the chat before sending it, WhatsApp marks the conversation with a green “Draft” label in the chat list. The preview draft and label make it easier for users to identify and complete their messages. Discussions with drafts are also moved to the top of the discussion list for convenience.

This addition aligns WhatsApp with competitors such as Telegram and Google Messages, which offer similar functionality. Although this is a relatively small update, it significantly improves the user experience by reducing the risk of losing or forgetting unfinished messages.

WhatsApp has also introduced other improvements recently. A notable new feature is “Custom Lists,” which allows users to organize chats under tags like “Work,” “Friends,” or “Family.” These custom tags offer greater customization and organizational options.

Looking ahead, WhatsApp is developing a feature that could transform users’ interactions with the application. The next update will allow users to create usernames instead of relying solely on phone numbers. This feature would allow access to the account across devices without the need for a phone nearby. Although it is still in development, it should include sync tools for consistent contact lists across all platforms.

More control over privacy

Another improvement focuses on privacy settings. Users now have greater control over who can see their profile picture, “last seen” status, and other personal information. These options can be customized for specific groups or individual contacts. Additionally, WhatsApp has added features to lock chats with passcodes or biometric authentication for added security.

With these updates, WhatsApp continues to improve its app with a focus on convenience, organization and privacy, keeping pace with its competitors.
