Player ratings as Blues retain top spot in WSL

Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City was more than enough to retain their top spot in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Sonia Bompastor’s side remain unbeaten in the 2024/25 campaign and Saturday’s victory at Stamford Bridge was a clear indicator that they are strong contenders for another title.

Mayra Ramirez and Guro Reiten scored the back of the net, securing the victory and proving why this Blues team is world class.

How the game played out

Chelsea dominated much of the first half, leaving a stunned Manchester City on the back foot.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd was by far the most impressive player on the pitch, continuing the impressive form she has shown this season.

It was Millie Bright who had the first chance on target, with a header that failed to make an impact and was easily saved by Ayaka Yamashita.

Chelsea’s fluidity proved problematic, as Lucy Bronze and Mille Bright fired balls over the City midfield.

As the first half progressed, the Cityzens managed to regain some of the possession. The best effort came from Khadjia ‘Bunny’ Shaw who found herself facing Bright but sent her shot wide.

Despite numerous chances, the Blues failed to find power behind their efforts to maintain their tie. The home side continued their momentum in the second half and certainly injected some spark into what had been a lackluster duel so far.

However, it was Ramirez who put Chelsea ahead in the 75th minute after heading past Cityand finally finding the back of the net. After that, they were in the spotlight.

Four minutes later, Reiten delicately placed the second goal of the evening in the left corner. City looked exhausted as the match continued and were unable to get the better of a home side, who were now performing in front of the crowd at Stamford Bridge.

When the final whistle blew, the result was a clear message that Chelsea had their eyes on their eighth consecutive game. WSL title.
