RCMP: Eight-year-old girl among two dead in collision

An eight-year-old girl has died after suffering life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle collision in southern Manitoba.

According to the RCMP, the accident occurred at the intersection of provincial roads 201 and 306 around 7 p.m. Friday.

An investigation revealed that a 25-year-old man from Brampton, Ont. was driving a semi-trailer traveling eastbound on Provincial Highway 201. RCMP said the driver failed to stop at the intersection with Provincial Highway 306.

As the truck entered the intersection, it collided with an SUV traveling southbound, RCMP said.

The car was driven by a 35-year-old woman from the Rhineland RM. The driver died instantly, while her eight-year-old daughter was taken to hospital where her life is in danger. She later died.

The 25-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was also taken to hospital. His injuries were treated and the man was released.

RCMP say charges will be laid in this case and the investigation is continuing.
