OVERTON, Texas (KLTV) – Overton is under a boil water advisory after crews repaired a broken water main.

Around 1:15 a.m., the city issued a notice that a water main break had occurred near Overton Cemetery. Overton Public Works, volunteer firefighters and police responded to begin fixing the problem.

Authorities said a 6-inch pipe from the 10-inch water main broke and the city was without water for a little more than an hour.

The city said pressure is expected to return to normal around 4:15 a.m. and a boil water advisory has been issued.

All residents must boil their water before consuming it (e.g. washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). Children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria.

To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water intended for human consumption, cooking and ice making must be boiled and cooled before being used for human consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous boil, then boiled for two minutes.

Instead of boiling, individuals can purchase bottled water or obtain water from another suitable source.
