“Why are these fish in Singapore so big!” : Woman shocked to find Arapaimas in Dempsey Hill pond

Here’s something that could interest fish lovers.

A Xiaohongshu user was shocked when she recently discovered rare giant arapaimas in a public pond in Singapore.

“Why are these fish in Singapore so big!” It’s scandalous! Why are there giants in the mall! she wrote.

A quick search shows that the arapaimas are not in a mall but in Dempsey Hill Pond, and they have lived there for over a decade.

For those who don’t know, the arapaima is considered the largest freshwater fish in the world and can grow up to three meters long.

The woman continued: “I always thought these fish could only be found in aquariums. They (can come) so close (to us)! There is no protection at all. It’s super scary!

She also said the arapaimas probably belong to the pond’s owner and wondered if “it was something that made rich people happy.”

She was apparently so afraid of the fish that her “hands were shaking” while she was filming the video.

Netizens were intrigued by the post, with many saying they never knew the pond existed and would now take a trip to see the fish.

Others agreed with her about the “scary” appearance of arapaimas, with some saying they could simply “jump over the pond railings.”

Really?

Well, for those looking for a “safer” option, perhaps visiting River Wonders in Mandai would be the best option.
