Latest US election: Trump to deliver closing message at New York rally as Harris emphasizes commitment to abortion rights

Walz draws parallels to 1930s Madison Square Garden rally in New Yorkposted at 6:36 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time

Presidential and vice presidential candidates are scattered across the United States today as we head into the home stretch before Election Day.

In Henderson, Nevada, vice presidential candidate Tim Walz spoke to supporters, referring to Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden later in the day.

He appears to compare Trump’s rally this afternoon to another event held years ago at the iconic venue.

“There is a direct parallel to a large gathering that took place in the mid-1930s at Madison Square Garden,” says Walz. “And don’t think he doesn’t know for a second exactly what they’re doing there.”

It appears to refer to the German-American Bund rally in February 1939, when Nazi leader Fritz Julius Kuhn addressed 20,000 people in the arena. The Bund organization, which brought together support for Adolf Hitler’s regime in the United States, organized a “pro-Americanist rally”.

Earlier this week, when Kamala Harris compared Trump to a fascist, he posted on X and Truth Social that her comments were a sign that she was losing. He said she “raised her rhetoric more and more, going so far as to call me Adolf Hitler, and whatever twisted mind came to mind.”

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accused Trump in a CNN interview Thursday of “reenacting” the 1939 rally, saying it “took place about six and a half months before the Third Reich invaded Poland “.

The Trump campaign countered by claiming that Clinton had also attended events there. “Even putting aside her hypocrisy, Hillary’s speech about half the country is disgusting,” said Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.
