“We know how much people appreciate discounts because we hear from our consumers when we see them in the community,” Heatley said.

Most residential and business customers connected to the Northpower electricity network will benefit from a reduction which will be calculated on their individual consumption. The payment will be different for everyone this year and will be made in two separate installments of up to $149.89 including GST, the first in November and the second in May next year.

Splitting the payment this year is an interim step, as payments are shifted to each May starting in 2026. This change in the payment schedule is necessary to align the discount with the network’s pricing year, which extends from April to March.

“We are very pleased that Northpower’s continued success allows us to offer this rebate to Northpower homeowners. We know what a difference this makes to many households, particularly in the current climate,” said Mark Trigg, chairman of Northpower.

Northpower Electric Power Trust is distributing an additional $2.2 million to its consumer owners this year, meaning each connected customer will also receive a one-off sum of $35 (GST-free) when paying from November to December.

The discount and trusted one-time distribution will be reflected as credits on customers’ November or December electricity bills and will benefit more than 60,000 customer connections on the Northpower network.

To be eligible, consumers must have an active network connection as of November 1 for the first payment and May 1, 2025 for the second. Full details of the eligibility criteria and how the rebate is calculated can be found on the Northpower website. northpower.com.
