Peake on top of the world after Kaadam produces perfect performance in Prix Maurice Gillois

Kaadam made the dreams of British homeowners come true Andy Peake and Simon Macauley sprinting ahead of his rivals to justify strong favoritism in the Grade 1 Prix Maurice Gillois, announcing himself as France’s best young chaser.

Expectations for Kaadam were sky-high after a 20-length demolition of his peers in the main event last month, earning him a higher rating than Il Est Français or any of the other established senior chasers in France, although he is limited to racing against his own age group of four-year-olds.

Peake praised the jockey Gaétan Masure for a secure leadership that prioritized security rather than trying to drive its opposition into the ground.

“After what he did last time we thought he might win by a long shot, but he was traveling extremely well and at no point in the race was I worried,” Peake said. “But you have to jump the barriers and the course was textbook.

“The way Gaétan maneuvers it during a race; he takes it out in the big jump into the water. It was incredible.”

Peake, who, with Macauley, purchased half the shares in the Arnaud Chaille-Chaille prospect in the spring, added: “It’s a privilege and a pleasure. Mick Fitzgerald once spoke about the best ten minutes of his life at the Grand National. I’ve had three children so I can’t say it’s the best thing but it’s amazing.”

Kentucky Wood remained second, while Kolokico, winner of the Spring Grade 1 for four-year-olds, was beaten by Royal Saga in the race for third place.

Sane of Mind ahead of Nietzsche Has

Francois Nicolle hit the bar several times on the opening day of this encounter, but the reigning champion’s trainer was back in the Grade 1 winners’ enclosure on Sunday when Holy Spirit And Angelo Zuliani got the better of Nietzsche Has after a battle in the Auteuil straight to win the title of best three-year-old hurdler in France in the category Cambacérès Prize.

“I told everyone that I would win Cambacérès three weeks ago and it’s now done.” said Nicolle. “He’s a machine, he can follow any pace and he goes on all types of terrain. He jumped perfectly and Angelo did a great race, much more forward, that’s exactly what I gave him asked to do.

“He’s a big horse and I think he’ll make a better chaser. We’ll give him a good break now and you’ll see him next year. I don’t know yet if we’ll stick to the hurdles at the moment . but its future is beyond the barriers.
