HCA expects additional expenses and lost revenue from hurricanes to exceed $250 million

HCA Healthcare estimated Friday that Hurricanes Helene and Milton would cause between $250 million and $350 million in additional expenses and lost revenue at its facilities in Florida and other states.

In a report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the hospital industry giant said that during the third quarter of the year, ended September 30, it incurred approximately $50 million additional expenses and lost income in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, because of Helen.

He said he expects an additional $200 million to $300 million in spending during the fourth quarter due to the lingering effects of Helene in North Carolina and Milton.

The report does not break down the amounts by state.

Helene made landfall on September 26 in Taylor County, Florida after causing damage to other coastal communities as it crossed the Gulf of Mexico. It crossed parts of northern Florida into Georgia and North Carolina, where it caused significant damage.

Milton made landfall on October 9 in Sarasota County and continued to move across Florida as a hurricane.

Friday’s report said the dollar amounts do not include possible insurance recoveries.
