    Comedian calls Puerto Rico a ‘floating pile of trash’ at Trump MSG rally

    A comedian for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump Madison Square Garden closing rally made jokes about Latinos having too many babies, called Puerto Rico a floating garbage island, and referenced “watermelon carving” with a black friend.

    “There’s a lot going on. I don’t know if you know this, but there’s literally a floating island of trash in the middle of the ocean right now,” Tony Hinchliffe, who goes by the name Kill Tony, said Sunday.

    He paused before delivering his punchline. “I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”

    Hinchcliffe’s comments in the opening act drew laughs and groans from the crowd before Trump’s speech.

    Kill Tony, Hinchcliffe’s comedy show with nearly 2 million YouTube subscribers, often features newbies and regulars comedians make hot jokes and attracted criticism by many listeners for being racist and sexist.

    Hinchcliffe’s opening act comes as 2024 presidential candidates try to send a national message. For Trump, it’s a headlining event at Madison Square Garden, a world-renowned venue for artists. But Hinchliffe’s jokes are also consistent with the antics and tropes this drew large crowds to Trump.

    In his remarks, Hinchliffe also lashed out at Latinos in the face of mixed responses from the crowd. He said he welcomed migrants to the United States with “open arms” and then extended his arms in a “get out of here” gesture.

    “It’s wild,” he continued. “And these Latinos, they also love making babies, you know that. They do it, they do it.”

    During his act, Hinchcliffe also pointed to a black man in the audience and said, “All right, hell yeah.” A black guy with something on his head. What is this, a lampshade? said Hinchcliffe. “Look at this guy. Oh my God,

    After a pause, Hinchliffe added: “Just kidding. He’s one of my friends. He had a Halloween party last night. We had a great time. We carved watermelons together. It was great.

    A Trump campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

    Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz and New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, provide live coverage of the rallycriticized Hinchcliffe for his comments. Both said hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans live in Pennsylvania and urged them to monitor the remarks so they could vote for Harris instead.

    After Hinchliffe criticized Puerto Rico, Alyssa Farah Griffin, former Trump White House official posted on X, formerly Twitter, “Who wants to tell these guys that there are ~HALF A MILLION Puerto Ricans living in Battleground PA, whose votes are up for grabs?”

    In a post onHinchcliffe said later Sunday that he loved Puerto Rico and had vacationed there. He was also surprised that his comments had already prompted a reprimand from Walz. “These people have no sense of humor,” he wrote.
