Sheikh Waqas Akram, a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said his party would not negotiate with the government or the establishment ahead of the planned nationwide protest this weekend.

“There is no possibility of negotiations with the government or the establishment before the protest,” Akram said in an interview with the show host. Geo News’ program ‘Naya Pakistan’ on Sunday.

PTI founder Imran Khan, incarcerated, last week called on his supporters to demonstrate in Islamabad on November 24.

“Imran Khan says this is the last call for an (anti-government) protest. The PTI founder stressed that the entire party leadership would participate in the march,” his lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said after the march. a meeting in Adiala prison.

The protest would not only take place in Islamabad, but across Pakistan and the world where Imran’s supporters were present, Chaudhry said.

The party made four demands: revoke the 26th constitutional amendment, restore democracy and the constitution, make the mandate public and release all “innocent political” prisoners.

Lawyer Chaudhry said the party founder had also formed a committee for the march and asked not to reveal the names of those who were part of it as Imran feared they would be arrested.

Khan has been behind bars since August 2023 after being convicted in the Toshakhana case and later convicted in other cases.

Then, ‘Naya Pakistan’ show host Shahzad Iqbal quoted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah as saying that the PTI protest was not a problem for the government and that the opposition party would not benefit from it.

In response, Akram said Sanaullah had earlier said they would not be able to cross the Attock Bridge, but his party had done so. He also said party activists would stay put until the goals were achieved.

“We will not leave (the venue of the demonstration) until the objectives of the demonstration are achieved,” he said.

Replying to a question, he said Defense Minister Khawaja Asif was no one to say that PTI people were compromised. If that was the case, then he should be happy instead of worrying about it, he added.

Earlier, Sanaullah, who holds the portfolio of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, in the same programme, said the PTI’s call was not a challenge to the government.

He also said that the opposition party had given a call for protest without doing its homework and the call would backfire and cause immense damage to the party.

The Prime Minister suggested that the PTI engage in political dialogue, he added, but dialogue did not figure in the PTI founder’s policy.
