Further showers expected on Monday as gusts ease

The gusty trade winds of the last few days will ease on Monday then slow down mid-week, becoming light and variable until the weekend. Showers are expected in windward and mauka areas. We have a First Alert for the eastern end of the state, where showers could be heavier through Tuesday as an upper-level disturbance meanders near Hawaii Island.

Drier and more stable conditions are expected to develop Wednesday, with little to no precipitation across the state from Thursday into the weekend.

A high surf advisory will remain in effect for east-facing coasts until 6pm on Monday, with waves remaining rough and high due to strong trade winds. High waves will combine with high water levels to cause harmful coastal flooding along the eastern shores.

Elsewhere, a small, medium-period north swell will slowly diminish on Monday. Waves on the west and south shores will be low, in the range of 1 to 3 feet.

Some ocean alerts remain posted until 6 a.m. Monday, including a gale warning for coastal waters and channel waters around Maui County and the island of Hawaii, and an advisory for small craft for the remaining coastal waters.
