As tensions flared in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh called a meeting of all MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies at the CM secretariat in Imphal on Monday at 6 pm.

The meeting was convened to review “the evolving law and order situation in the state”, officials said, PTI reported.

The meeting comes as the Manipur Government Secretariat, Department of Higher and Technical Education, declared closure of schools and colleges, including state universities, in Imphal West and Imphal East districts until Tuesday, November 19, in a context of curfew.

Manipur is witnessing a surge in violence in the state capital – after six members of a Meitei family were abducted from a relief camp in Jiribam last week and five were eventually found dead.

Since then, mobs have targeted and vandalized the homes of several political leaders, widely associated with the party. BJP.

The development also comes as Conrad Sangma’s National People’s Party (NPP), which has seven MLAs among the 60-member Manipur Assembly, withdrew its support to the BJP-led government, saying N Biren’s regime Singh had “completely failed to resolve the crisis”. and restore normalcy” in the northeastern state.

Conrad Sangma’s letter, addressed to BJP leader JP Nadda, mentioned the Manipur CM by name. “We are convinced that the Manipur State Government, under the leadership of Shri Biren Singh, has completely failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy. In view of the current situation, the People’s National Party has decided to withdraw its support to the Biren Singh-led government in the state of Manipur, with immediate effect,” he wrote, Indian Express reported.

Meanwhile, the Minister of the Interior Amit Shah will also hold a meeting to give instructions on how to try to control violence in the state.
