Education Ministry to bring Druze history lesson to classrooms – Israel News

The Israeli Ministry of Education plans to introduce a new course at the college focused on the history of the Druze community in Israel.

The course titled “Druze Society: History, Heritage and Culture” is designed for grades 7-9, with the aim of helping younger generations gain a deeper understanding of the The history of the Druze communitytraditions and partnership with the State of Israel.

Education Minister Yoav Kisch said: “Israel’s rich societal mosaic is the cornerstone of our national strength. The bond shared with our Druze brothers constitutes a crucial chapter in the collective history of Israel. »

“Now more than ever, it is essential to strengthen this partnership and enrich Israeli students’ understanding of the unique and invaluable heritage of Druze society. Each community brings distinctive nuances to the broader Israeli picture, and we are grateful for the Druze community’s courageous commitment to Israel,” he concluded.

The program will examine the historical context of the Druze people and their ties to Israel, before and after the establishment of the state.

Cultural and historical appreciation

Additional topics include Druze cultural and religious traditions, societal development, values, holidays and ceremonies, as well as a focus on the integration of members of the Druze community into the Israeli military and their contributions to the security of Israel.

The Ministry of Education wants students to develop an appreciation of Druze heritage through this initiative. The program is designed to help them recognize key events that shaped Druze identity. Additionally, it promotes intercommunal understanding, respect for Druze traditions, and the skills to engage in meaningful dialogue while embracing diverse perspectives.

Students will have the opportunity to meet members of the Druze community and take guided tours of different Druze towns across Israel.
