A nuclear power plant decommissioned for 30 years will soon make it possible to power a new installation with recovered nuclear waste.

The Department of Energy approved Oklo’s Safety Design Report (CSDR) for the Aurora Fuel Fabrication Facility, as Interesting engineering reported. It will use high-grade low-enriched uranium (HALEU) from the Breeder Experimental Reactor-II and will be located at the Idaho National Laboratory.

“The approval of the CSDR is a critical step toward fuel fabrication for Oklo’s first commercial deployment,” said Jess Gehin, INL Laboratory associate director for nuclear and technologysaid in a press release. “As the national nuclear energy research laboratory, we are committed to collaborating with companies like Oklo to advance fission technologies and provide clean energy solutions.”

Next steps include a preliminary safety analysis before construction and a documented safety analysis after construction and commissioning.

The recovered highly enriched uranium will be cleaned and mixed with less enriched uranium to make HALEU, Interesting Engineering detailed. This requires a chemical bath of molten salts at high temperatures and an electric current that separates the highly enriched uranium from the fission products.

Once turned into ingots, it is broken down into smaller forms with low doses, which can power advanced reactors such as Oklo’s. microreactor.

Did you know that the body produces 1 to 2% less collagen protein per year, starting in your thirties? Like the most abundant protein in the body, its reduction is a major contributor to the signs of aging.

Fortunately, you can help restore collagen levels with Native path For cartilage support, joint relief and healthy skin and nails – without fillers or “junk”.

In one study, postmenopausal women who took 5 grams of collagen per day saw their bone density increase by 7% over the course of a year – that’s how powerful collagen replacement can be.

Simply add two unflavored, easily soluble scoops to your favorite beverage to get 18 grams of protein that supports bone health, digestion and more.

The developments are promising and the use of spent fuel minimizes one of the risks of generally safe industry. But renewable energies such as solar and wind power are even safer and cheaper. With this in mind, researchers are working to improve nuclear safety by test a compound molecule, design robots to manage radioactive wasteand create power plants that no need for water to cool.

The United States has dozens of nuclear reactorsalthough the number is decreasing. Twenty five are being decommissioned, although the industry is gaining ground by redeveloping sites and even building new ones as demand for clean energy and the desire to slow rapid global warming increases.
