Top global bankers meet in Hong Kong for summit as regulators promise more reforms

Dozens of the world’s biggest financiers have gathered in Hong Kong to take part in a summit attended by officials from mainland China, demonstrating the country’s leaders’ high level of support for the city’s development.

Jane Fraser, CEO of Citi, Jenny Johnson, CEO of Franklin Templeton, and Ronald O’Hanley, CEO of State Street, were among 300 bankers seen arriving Monday evening at the Henderson, site of a high-profile banquet.

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, the top official in charge of the mainland’s financial services sector, was scheduled to deliver a keynote speech on Tuesday on the first day of the conference, but did not attend the dinner, according to the participants.

Beijing’s top economic official will bring with him the largest delegation ever seen on the mainland to the Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit since the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) began hosting the event in 2022.
