Will the real Timothée Chalamet please stand up? Actor misses his own lookalike contest in New York

What’s better than a bunch of “Timothée Chalamets”? A certain Timothée Chalamet. The real deal.

The Little Woman and Call Me By Your Name star surprised his screaming fans when he took part in a lookalike competition in New York.

Hundreds of people flocked to New York’s Washington Square Park in the Greenwich Village neighborhood, causing enough chaos that police had to move the crowd.

The contest was hosted by a YouTube personality named Anthony Po and the winner was promised a paltry prize of $50.

It wasn’t enough to look like the young actor who also appeared in Bones and All, The King and Lady Bird, they were asked to answer “character-based” questions about his girlfriend Kylie Jenner and her mastery of French (Chalamet is (having dual American and French nationality).

Some came dressed as his characters from the films Wonka and Dune.

While the lookalikes posed, the real Chalamet squeezed through the crowd between two of them and posed for photos. Media reported that the actor’s appearance sparked frenzied screams throughout the park.

Before Chalamet surprised his groupies at the start of the competition, police reportedly took one of the lookalikes away in handcuffs, although the reason is unknown.

Eventually, a contestant dressed as Wonka won the $50 and, according to Vulture, said he would spend the money on lollipops.

Chalamet began his career as a teen actor on television shows such as Homeland and Royal Pains before moving to the big screen with roles in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Jason Reitman’s Men, Women and Children.

His breakout performance was in Luca Guadagnino’s LGBTQI romance Call Me By Your Name in 2017, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.

His stock only increased afterwards: he worked with Greta Gerwig in Lady Bird and Little Women, then with Wes Anderson for The French Dispatch and with Denis Villeneuve in two adaptations of Dune.

He starred in the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, which will be released in Australia in January, in which he plays a young Dylan as he begins to gain traction as a folk singer in Greenwich Village.

Chalamet is currently filming Marty Supreme in New York, where he was born and still lives. The Josh Safdie-directed film is based on the story of table tennis player Marty Reisman and also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, Odessa A’zion and Fran Drescher.
