HOT content coming to Cellcom TV

Cellcom Group today (Tuesday) announced a collaboration with HOT Group. As part of the deal, Cellcom TV customers will have access to all content uploaded by HOT on its discounted streaming service, Next TV, allowing Cellcom viewers to watch original HOT content, such as “ Connected.”

Cellcom also announced that in addition to adding HOT content, it was updating the app’s interface to make it more modern. Cellcom noted that the service for Cellcom TV customers will continue to be managed by Cellcom (meaning that, most likely, the application will still be primarily maintained and built by HOT).

Cellcom stressed that the launch of the new interface, alongside the integration of the Next TV bouquet, will take place gradually and automatically for all Cellcom TV customers, at no additional cost.

A similar approach from Partner TV

Cellcom’s announcement recalls a similar decision taken last July by Partner TV and yes. At that time, Partner announced that it would replace its app with a new app developed by yes, based on content from yes plus.

Partner had announced that once preparations were completed, which would take several months, all Partner TV customers would automatically benefit from an upgrade, both in terms of TV packages and bundled Internet and triple-play packages. This upgrade would occur with no additional monthly fees and no action required from customers, who would keep their current set-top boxes and remote controls. After completing the technology setup and receiving necessary approvals, Partner would inform its customers and the public in an orderly manner.

The steps taken by Cellcom TV and Partner TV will certainly expand the content offerings for their customers, but they will also reduce competition. Essentially, we are seeing two key players in the TV market, who have managed to create significant competition, and who may now significantly reduce that competition as they become dependent on other companies (yes and HOT).
