The children of a French man who drugged their mother for a decade to have her raped by dozens of strangers spoke Monday of their heartbreak and heartbreak, with the daughter insisting she was “forgotten” well that she was also mistreated.

The couple’s children spoke outside the court in Avignon, in the south of the country, as the trial entered its final stages, with the final group of defendants giving evidence ahead of sentencing requests later in the week and the verdict next month.

Since the beginning of September, Dominique Pelicot has been in the dock with 49 other men. Another accused is still at large.

Pelicot’s ex-wife, Gisèle, became a feminist icon by refusing to be ashamed and demanding that the trial be opened to the public to raise awareness about the use of drugs to commit sexual abuse.

Dominique Pelicot documented his wife’s assaults in painstaking detail on a hard drive in a file titled “abuse”, which led the police to find 50 men at his side.

Gisèle’s daughter, who uses the pseudonym Caroline Darian, believes she was also attacked by her father.
