The main reason Arizona has gained 173 Californians a day for a decade

More than 630,000 people have left California for Arizona over the past ten years, an average of 173 per day, making Arizona the second most popular U.S. destination for outbound Californians.

Only Texas saw a larger influx from the Golden State, according to a new report on migration trends from StorageCafe which took into account not only the raw number of people moving, but also where they were coming from and what kind of savings they could expect as a result.

For example, people coming from California to Arizona can usually expect huge savings on their residency. The average price of a home in Arizona ($321,000) is less than half that of California ($659,000), according to the report, and apartment rents in Arizona are 30 percent lower than those in California.

Added to this are tax savings. The report compares Arizona’s 2.5 percent income tax rate with California’s 13.3 percent rate, the highest in the nation, and the 4.9 percent corporate tax rate. % of Arizona with that of California of 8.8%.
