Godzilla will take over Free Comic Book Day with an epic new series

Godzilla may be a force to be reckoned with on the big and small screens alike, but those aren’t the only avenues that see the King of the Monsters wreaking havoc.. Comics are not safe from the Lizard King, as the kaiju universe is about to change astronomically as the next Free Comic Book Day approaches. While Godzilla recently took on DC’s Justice League alongside King Kong, a new series is gearing up to introduce new superhumans that will present a new challenge for the King of the Monsters. Godzilla: the new heroes will take the world by storm in 2025 and publisher IDW has shared new information about this kaiju-filled comic series.

Free Comic Book Day began in 2002 and annually gives comic book readers the opportunity to pick up free comic books every May. The next FCBD will take place on May 3, 2025 and IDW is bringing together a packed roster of creators to weave this new universe for Godzilla and super-powered humans take on the lizard king. The free comic itself will be a ten-page prelude to this new universe and IDW has shared which comic creators will help make it happen. The creative roster includes Tim Seeley (Grayson, Local man), Nikola Čižmešija (Batman and Robin, Batman: Sword of Azrael) Ethan S. Parker & Griffin Sheridan (Kill your darlings), Pablo Tunica (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Heir of the Sea Serpent), Chris Gooch (In the womb, Underground), and Oliver Ono (Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp, Godzilla: Rivals)

G force increases

Here’s IDW’s official breakdown of the story of Godzilla: The New Heroes, “The FIRST LOOK at IDW’s new Godzilla universe.” Each of these books is a new exploration of what it means to be a Godzilla comic: from a group of space-flying mercenaries to Mechagodzilla to a strange wasteland inhabited by a half-kaiju, half-human monster , through a bold vision of superheroes. on G-Force.

IDW

To give readers a better idea of what’s to come in this new Godzilla universe, IDW editor-in-chief Jake Williams said the following: “We challenged ourselves to build a world around Godzilla that’s as interesting as the King of the Monsters himself,” Williams said, “A new continuity filled to the brim with super-powered humans, kaiju half-breeds, stories across Earth and space, and a new vision of Godzilla himself, all in service of one goal: telling Godzilla stories that could only exist on the pages of a comic book.

The reasoning behind this new series, as Williams explains, is to “introduce readers to new characters, introduce a new Kaiju, and serve as a launching point for our new Godzilla continuity.”

Godzilla’s Bright Future

Along with the next Godzilla: the new heroesThe Lizard King is also unleashed in the West in a new IDW series. Godzilla vs. America will be an anthology series which will see the king of the monsters face different locations in the West. IDW has had some serious success with the Lizard King in the comics and luckily there are other projects in the works for Godzilla on screen.

As for Japan, Toho announced that a sequel to Godzilla minus one is in preparation. In addition to Takashi Yamazaki’s return to the kaiju universe, Legendary Pictures also has numerous projects in the works. The third film in the Godzilla x Kong series is in the works, the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is in production, and Apple TV+ is working on a new spinoff TV series. No matter where you look, it’s a great time to be a Godzilla fan.
