Amcor’s $13 billion takeover of rival plastic packaging group Berry Global took six years to complete. That’s when Ron Delia, then Amcor’s chief executive, floated the idea of ​​merging with the Indiana-headquartered plastic products maker.

Ultimately it was left to Delia’s successor, Peter Konieczny, to seal the deal for the Melbourne-founded business, which started as the Australian Paper Mills Company in 1896 before going global.
