As the titular Ani in Sean Baker’s brilliant film AnoraMikey Madison was supposed to become a live wire. (As Madison said in her ELLE cover interview, “I found myself exerting a lot of energy every day to be where Ani was, where she was always ready to fight.”) On the red carpet this evening at ELLE’s Women in Hollywood event, organized in partnership with Ralph Lauren, Harry Winston and TikTok, she embodied calm in a rather heavenly look.

Madison walked the carpet in a breezy backless dress by Ralph Lauren, paired with a chain shoulder bag. She wore her brunette hair in long, soft waves as she smiled for the cameras.

In her ELLE interviewMadison explained how she was “falling in love with the characters and fighting to get through the door and it not happening” for years. As Anora earns her a place in the spotlight, “some of those doors are opening again,” she said.

She continued: “No one in my family worked in the industry. I just tried to jump into it with absolutely no knowledge of how things worked, and magically – or with hard work – I got to places, but it was so difficult. It was an important lesson to learn, but I wish I had trusted my acting instincts more earlier. I think there have definitely been times where I’ve felt stifled or overwhelmed by other people’s perspectives, but now I know that my opinion and my voice really do matter.
