How to Reverse Google Image Search: Video Tutorial

Humans are naturally curious and we are surrounded by people and things that pique our interest. Maybe a cute pair of shoes will catch your eye as you scroll through your social media feeds. Or it could be a friend’s indoor plant whose name you need to know. Or maybe you just need that fun cup from the coffee shop.

With advances in technology, it’s easy to satisfy your curiosity by using an image to search for more information. Using a “reverse image search” on a computer or smartphone, you can find people, places and objects that are in the photo.

Watch this video to see how to do a reverse image search on Google.

Google Images

Just like going to Google’s landing page and entering a search query, you can do the same with an image.

There are two ways to search for an image on the Google website:

  • You can upload or link an image using the camera icon at the end of the search bar.

  • You can enter a text search and click to see the image results. Find the photo and click on it to enlarge it. Next, click on the camera icon at the bottom left of this image.

If you upload an image of a celebrity, for example: Dolly Parton on the red carpet, the results will display:

  • His name and those of any other known person who is also in the photo.

  • Other websites that use this image.

  • Similar images, like someone wearing an identical outfit or someone standing against the same background.

Google Lens searches the entire image by default, but you can adjust the settings to focus on a specific area of the image, like Dolly Parton shoes or a handbag.

Search doesn’t just work for celebrities. If you upload photos of yourself or your friend, the results will show you where on the Internet the original photo or images of people who look similar are located. If you upload an image of an animal, plant, or cute outfit, Google Lens will scan it and do its best to identify the breed, plant, or where to buy the outfit or a similar outfit. Plus, it will tell you the price so you can get the best deal.
