Doctors truly live up to their reputation as lifesavers. This was recently exemplified by Dr Ishwar Singh and Dr Gopal Krishna of the Department of Neurosurgery at PGIMS Rohtak, who successfully performed a high-risk surgery to remove a metal rod from the brain of a young boy. Their quick thinking and expertise effectively gave the 14-year-old a “second chance at life.”

Dr Gopal Krishna, speaking about the case, said the boy was brought to the hospital in a critical condition after suffering a traumatic injury when an iron bar pierced his skull and penetrated his brain. The rod had caused severe brain damage, leaving the Mewat teenager unconscious and in shock.

On arrival at the emergency department of PGIMS Rohtak, he was in a state of deep unconsciousness and his prognosis seemed bleak. The rod had entered his skull from the left side, causing a fracture and significant head trauma. Despite the severity of the injury, doctors knew there was little time to lose and urgent surgery was needed to save his life.

The surgical team, led by Dr. Gopal Krishna, quickly rushed the patient to the operating room, where they performed the delicate procedure of removing the rod. The operation, very complex and risky, consisted of carefully extracting the rod without causing additional damage to the brain. Any misstep could have resulted in permanent neurological impairment or even death.

Dr. Krishna noted that the nature of the injury left very little room for error. “We had to carefully balance saving the boy’s life and avoiding catastrophic damage to his brain. “The procedure was incredibly complex, but using advanced imaging technology and microsurgical techniques, we were able to precisely remove the rod,” he said. The operation lasted several hours, but the result was successful, with doctors managing to avoid any further brain damage. injury.

Miraculously, a few hours after the operation, the patient regained consciousness. His recovery has been nothing short of astonishing. “He began to recognize his family and medical staff, and within a few days he was able to walk again – something that had seemed impossible just hours before,” added Dr Krishna.

This remarkable recovery left the medical team and the boy’s family stunned, constituting an extraordinary example of modern medicine and perhaps, as some have described it, a miracle.
