ITV bosses are hoping Wayne Rooney could appear on I’m A Celebrity while his wife Coleen is in camp. The mirror reportsBehind the scenes, show bosses found ways to involve the former Everton player, after scenes with Coleen talking about her relationship with her husband went down a storm with viewers.

One suggestion is that they bring back a trial where contestants can win short phone calls from their family members, which would allow Wayne to be seen on the other end of the line on the camp’s famous red phone booth. They also hope that if Coleen makes it to the final episodes of the series, former footballer Wayne will be the one to send a letter from home.

A final possibility would be a video message from Wayne and the children if Coleen was in the final. According to the Mirror, a TV source said: “Bosses like to keep contestants isolated from the outside world as much as possible. But towards the end of the series they will offer small prizes which will provide access to their loved ones, such as letters from home and sometimes calls from home and maybe even videos could happen.

“People loved it when Harry Redknapp reunited with his wife Sandra at the camp. That can’t happen because Wayne isn’t going to Australia, so they are looking at other options to get him involved because they know it would be a big hit with viewers and Coleen.

Coleen now has her luxury item which is a pillow with a photo from the family album with her and Wayne posing with their four children – Kai, 15, Klay, 11, Kit, 8, and Cass, 6. Before leaving for camp, she told the Mirror: “My two youngest are coming here. They all had the option but the older two decided they would stay at home to continue school and football. I think having said when you come you will have to bring your work with you, and they would miss some soccer tournaments, so they quickly changed their minds.

“And also the fact that they don’t know when they’ll be able to see me. That was another big thing, is that if I was last and stayed near the end, I wouldn’t spend time with me, so I explained that.

“Obviously I wish they’d all come out but it makes sense in a way and they both made a wise decision not to miss anything at home and as soon as the show is over I’ll come right back next.”
