While ESPN wants to keep YES Network play-by-play announcer Kay, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported that the two sides are still in negotiations and that could lead to Kay holding the 1 p.m. 3 p.m. or lose the show completely. It’s also possible that “The Michael Kay Show” — or whatever it will be if Kay stays — will air without Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg by its side.

The Athletic said La Greca and Alan Hahn could fill the evening show’s 3-7 p.m. slot, while Rosenberg would lose his job at ESPN altogether.

Kay has spent the last 37 years covering the Yankees in print, television and radio.with his radio show broadcast on ESPN since 2002.

Kay recently became upset that the Yankees’ Opening Day game on March 27 would only be broadcast on ESPN and would likely end its streak of Game 1 coverage.

“No offense, Michael, but I don’t think ESPN was thinking of you,” La Greca said.

“They never do. They haven’t done it lately! » said Kay.

Was this also a knock against ESPN over its contract negotiations?

Either way, fans may not have much time left to listen to (98.7 FM) and watch his show that battled and ultimately defeated WFAN’s Mike Francesa in their ratings war.
