Sonia Bompastor hopes Chelsea can make victory easy

Sonia Bompastor wants Chelsea to make winning “come easy” as they continue their successful run in Europe.

Chelsea have won 11 consecutive matches since the Frenchwoman took over from Emma Hayes in the summer and sit top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) table.

Their 3-0 win over Celtic in the Women’s Champions League on Wednesday saw them reach the quarter-finals with two group matches remaining.

“As a club it is always important to make sure that after four matches you have the opportunity to qualify,” Bompastor said.

“It’s perfect, although tonight you saw that everything was not perfect – but in terms of results we are in a good position.

“It’s good because once again it brings a lot of confidence. It’s important for us to continue our journey. There are a lot of positives.

“It’s important to work hard to make things easy, even if they aren’t.”

Bompastor made six changes to the starting XI since their crucial WSL win over Manchester City last weekend and was able to rest key players.

It also provided a debut for 17-year-old Lola Brown, who this week signed her first professional contract with the club.

“I’m really happy. I told my players that it was a good opportunity for us to qualify for the quarter-finals and we did it,” added Bompastor.

“We remain at the top of the (European) rankings, which we also wanted to guarantee. This is excellent news.

“We were able to rotate the team and also allow some players to rest with a view to the match against Manchester United (Sunday).”
