Low pressure cutoff system will hit South Africa on Sunday, bringing lots of rain

The cutting low pressure system will bring at least an 80% chance of rain to some areas Sunday and Monday.

While some rain and thunderstorms are expected on Saturday, South Africans should expect more wet weather when a cutting low pressure system hits on Sunday and lasts until at least Monday.

THE SA Weather Service (Saws) on Saturday issued a Level 1 yellow warning for severe thunderstorms bringing large amounts of small hail and localized flooding to sensitive roads in southeastern parts of Mpumalanga.

A Level 1 Yellow Warning has been issued for damaging winds causing some transport routes and travel services to be affected by fallen trees with localized disruption to harbors and/or harbors along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and East London.

Extremely high fire risk conditions are expected over the Northern Cape, North West, Western Free State as well as the Western Bushveld of Limpopo.

Saws has issued a Level 4 yellow warning for disruptive rain leading to flooding of roads and settlements as well as infrastructure damage over Cape Winelands, Cape Town, Overberg and southern parts of the Cape West Coast districts. Western, from Sunday to Monday.

A Level 3 Yellow Warning has been issued for damaging winds and waves causing danger to navigation and disruption to ports and small harbors between Lambert’s Bay and Plettenberg Bay from Sunday to Monday.

Saws has issued a Level 2 yellow warning for disruptive rain leading to localized flooding in settlements or sensitive roads, low lying areas and bridges over southern Namakwa of the Northern Cape, northern parts of the West Coast, parts areas of the Central Karoo as well as most parts of the Garden Route district of the Western Cape, from Sunday to Monday.

It has issued a Level 2 yellow warning for damaging winds leading to difficult driving conditions and localized damage to settlements in the City of Cape Town, Cape Winelands, Overberg, Garden Route and Central Karoo municipalities of the Western Cape as well as in the Karoo Hoogland Municipality. from the Northern Cape on Sunday.

Gauteng:

Partly cloudy and warm but warm in the north.

Expected UVB sunburn rating: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thunderstorms, except in the western Highveld where it will be partly cloudy.

Limpopo:

Cloudy in the east with morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thunderstorms over central and southeastern parts.

It will be very hot in places on the Western Bushveld.

North West Province:

Fine and warm to very hot, becoming partly cloudy in the east.

Free State:

Cloudy in the east at first then it will become partly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, otherwise fine warm to hot.

North Cape:

Cloudy with patches of fog early in the morning along the north coast where it will be cool, otherwise fine, windy and warm to hot but very warm in places in the east and center.

The weather will become cloudy in the far west with a risk of light rain late in the evening.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong from the south to southeast, becoming westerly to southwest from the afternoon, but northwesterly from late evening.

Western Cape:

Morning fog patches in the Breede Valley and the Little Karoo, otherwise fine and warm to warm becoming cloudy in the far west with a risk of light rain from late evening. It will be cool in places along the south coast.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate from the south to southeast along the west coast, where it will become moderate to fresh from the west to northwest in the afternoon, otherwise moderate to fresh from the north -East.

Eastern Cape (western half):

Partly cloudy in places along the coast, otherwise fine and warm, but cool along the coast. The wind along the coast will be light from the northwest, becoming fresh to strong from the east from late morning, but from the northeast at night.

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

Cloudy with fog in places south of the escarpment in the morning and again at night, otherwise fine and cool to warm, but partly cloudy along the coast and adjacent interior in the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate from the west, becoming fresh to strong from the northeast from the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal:

Morning fog inland, otherwise cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thunderstorms. It will be hot in the west.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh from the south to southwest, becoming northeasterly late in the afternoon.

Expected UVB sunburn index: Low.
