Latest prediction not promising for Chicago Cubs power hitter target

THE Chicago Cubs the list is not where it should be. From a pure talent standpoint, especially on the offensive side of baseball, the Cubs need to improve.

They could take different approaches this winter. If Chicago wants to compete in the near future, they need to find proven bats. However, if they believe some of their youngsters could come in and make an impact on them in the future, they may not spend as much as some hope.

Around baseball, there aren’t many teams better positioned to improve than the Cubs. They have business prospects and money to spend. However, if the front office is unwilling to move any of these prospects, that’s when problems could come into play.

Nonetheless, they still have money to spend on free agents, and several veteran hitters will be available for them to sign on the open market.

Among these includes Eugenio Suárez. Suarez is an interesting name for several reasons. On the one hand, the right-handed hitter has struggled at times throughout his career.

However, when he is at the top of his game, he can reach an elite level. That includes the 2024 campaign, when he posted a 116 OPS+ and hit 30 home runs. He’s hit at least 30 homers in three of the last four years, something Chicago could use in the middle of its lineup.

The question surrounding Suarez is how much his potential free agency contract could be. It also has a team option with the Arizona Diamondbackswhich raises more concerns about its potential landing.

This situation could very well occur as well, because Jim Bowden Athletics predicted the Diamondbacks would exercise his option.

“The Diamondbacks acquired Eugenio Suárez from Seattle last offseason in hopes of improving their power. Suárez certainly succeeded with 30 home runs and 100 RBIs. He finished in the 96th percentile in sweet spot percentage and has played solid defense at the hot corner, finishing in the 82nd percentile (above average releases). The Diamondbacks hold a $15 million option for 2025 ($2 million buyout) that they will likely pick up.

There are a few elite hitters on the market, so Suarez might not be considered a player that teams would want to spend money on.

Still, if he became a free agent, a team looking to upgrade their roster could use him. The Cubs fit that description perfectly, so it would make sense to at least keep an eye on him.
