An East Coast man is facing charges after a child-like sex doll was discovered by border agents examining an international mail shipment arriving by plane in Hamilton.

Joseph Ryan Jolicoeur was arrested at the residence.

He is charged with possession of child pornography and importation of child pornography under the Criminal Code, as well as smuggling child pornography into Canada under the Customs Act.

Jolicoeur was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Digby provincial court on January 6, 2025.

“Child pornography is more commonly known and understood as sexual images or videos of children,” said RCMP Const. Mandy Edwards, with the provincial ICE unit, said in the release. “However, child pornography can also be written, or in audio form, or, as in this case, in the form of a visual representation such as a childish sex doll. Child pornography in all its forms is considered harmful and is prohibited by the Criminal Code.

The RCMP and CBSA encourage citizens to speak up for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offenses to your police or using Canada’s national reporting line to report online child sexual exploitation at www.cyberhelp.ca.

“In Nova Scotia, it is mandatory for citizens to report any suspicion of child pornography,” the RCMP said. “Failure to report suspicious activity or material could result in criminal penalties similar to those that apply to failure to report child abuse under the Children’s Services Act and to the family. »
