Emergency services descended on Liverpool city center after a Stagecoach bus crashed into the back of an Arriva bus outside the Empire Theatre. The police were called to Rue de la Chaux around 10:50 a.m. today Saturday November 23, after a collision between the two vehicles in the city center.

Police blocked the track leading from Lime Street station, St George’s Place, while Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service investigated the accident. Firefighters laid down sand and ensured safety before leaving the scene.

Local police also confirmed they had received reports of minor injuries, with two ambulances remaining at the scene for more than an hour. The windscreen of the Stagecoach bus was severely damaged and passengers were evacuated from both vehicles.

Police kept the road closed for several hours while waiting for a recovery vehicle to come and rescue the Arriva bus which failed to start after the accident. A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.48am to reports of a collision between two buses.

“Slight injuries have been reported and the road is closed as the Arriva bus fails to start. We are waiting for it to be collected before reopening the road.”

People gathered at the crash site as Christmas markets remained open and traffic weathered the closure well.
