Did Joe Rogan almost get named to Ryan Walters’ library committee?

Oklahoma Schools Superintendent Ryan Walters may have almost named Joe Rogan to the state library’s media advisory committee, according to emails obtained by HuffPost.

HuffPost reported that in early February, less than two weeks after Walters announced his controversial project nomination of Chaya Raichik, creator of TikTok Libs, to the committeeEmails from state Department of Education spokesman Dan Isett assigned someone outside the department to write a press release announcing Rogan’s appointment to the committee.

The Oklahoma State Department of Education told The Oklahoman in January that the committee’s primary goal was to decide whether a book in question violated provisions outlined in the Oklahoma Media Program Rule . The Oklahoma Administrative Code rule aims to “remove pornographic or sexualized content from public schools in the State of Oklahoma,” the department wrote.

Rogan, UFC commentator, comedian and host of the podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience”, was presented as a “huge addition” to the committee in the draft statement.

“Joe warned of a ‘woke, guilt-ridden ideology’ in schools, particularly in other parts of the country,” read a statement attributed to Walters. “Like Joe, Oklahomans want nothing to do with this. I look forward to Joe’s candor and insights. This is a huge addition, not only for the purposes of the committee…but for a personality on the Renaissance free speech like Joe Rogan to elevate a broader discussion about real education reform and ultimately improve student outcomes.

HuffPost said it was unclear whether Rogan accepted the appointment or had conversations with anyone in the department, but his appointment was never announced.

The Oklahoman has contacted Isett for comment.
