‘There’s no way’ – Paul Lambert ends age-old Celtic-Rangers debate

Paul Lambert has decided to put an end to an age-old debate about Scottish football this weekend.

Celtic hold an already insurmountable nine-point lead over rivals Rangers from their opening matches this season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were relentless and dropped only points against an equally rampant Aberdeen side who came back from 2-0 down at Parkhead to draw 2-2 last month.

Gers, meanwhile, is languishing under a boss in difficulty Philippe Clement as the walls begin to close and the dissenting voices wail louder.

Where Clement has failed so far, Rodgers was successful and significantly so.

The Northern Irishman won big games and did so while being able to rotate his team where he gave minutes to fringe players such as Yang Hyun-jun and Luis Palma in midweek.

And it has just highlighted the strength in depth on display at Parkhead and available to the boss who built the team during the summer transfer window.

For Lambert – speaking on the show Warm-Up – the results and performances showed one thing in particular.

Lambert says no Rangers player would join Celtic squad

Every year the same debate seems to arise as to which Light Blues player would make a strong Hoops team under Rodgers’ stewardship.

But while there are usually maybe one, maybe two conversations to be had, this season Lambert sees nothing from the Gers squad that suggests any of his players are close to to fight for a place in the Celtic team.

“I don’t think a single Rangers player, not a single one, would make the Celtic team. Not a single one,” explained the former club captain.

Rangers are nine points behind Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership

“If you’re direct. Unless you look at it in real terms, with how brutal football is there is no chance Rangers are anywhere close to Celtic.

“On and off the field. Not just on the playing surface.”

We told you earlier this afternoon how another Hoops legend, Chris Sutton, targeted Clement for two major errors he implicated Celtic when it came to distracting Gers fans from his comments.
