Judge could stop Elon Musk’s $1 million America PAC contest Friday

  • A lawsuit filed by the Philadelphia DA would end Elon Musk’s million-dollar-a-day giveaway to voters as early as Friday.
  • Prosecutor Larry Krasner calls the giveaway an illegal lottery.
  • A hearing on Krasner’s request for an emergency injunction will be held 4 days before the election.

The Philadelphia District Attorney requested an emergency court hearing Friday in an attempt to shut down Elon Musk’s America PAC, which the city calls an “illegal lottery” in a lawsuit filed Monday morning.

Prosecutor Larry Krasner is seeking an injunction from a Philadelphia judge in which Musk and his PAC would be “restrained and enjoined from promoting, maintaining or operating their lottery.” a draft injunction filed with the lawsuit said.

Krasner’s lawsuit claims the giveaway is an illegal and unregulated lottery.

The suit seeks to stop the billionaire from offering a daily chance to win $1 million. This campaign has a catch: people must be registered voters to apply for the contest.

The offer was criticized by Democrats as a cash-for-registration campaign. Federal law prohibits paying someone to vote or register to vote.
