7 On Your Side helps Bronx mother and son who left their luggage with Uber

NEW YORK– Have you ever felt like you forgot something in your Uber or taxi? Maybe it’s your phone, your purse, or worst of all, your luggage.

That’s exactly what happened to one Bronx mother, and trying to get her belongings back was a journey she hoped she’d never have to make.

“He confirmed he had the package, but then refused to return it,” said Thalia Taylor, lost luggage.

Thalia, a single mother, and her son, Preston, traveled to Connecticut for some much-needed family time.

“Having a barbecue and spending the whole weekend in Connecticut,” she said.

However, when they arrived at their destination, they had a nagging feeling that something was missing.

“We started looking for it, and we didn’t see it. And my mother said to me, I didn’t see you come here with a second bag. I only see you with one. We started looking for it. And we were We’re still looking, though and that’s when we realized,” Preston said.

Preston realized he had left his entire gaming system in the back of their Uber.

“I was angry, angry because I was about to install it, and then I realized, where was this going?” » said Preston.

Thalia tried to call the driver to come back, but to no avail.

“He said he gave it back,” she said.

The driver sent a photo of the backpack by the front door.

Thalia and Preston checked, but it wasn’t there.

Thalia thought the game was over and she would never get her son’s PS4 back.

“I wasn’t ready to buy a new game console for my son. And I understand how my son feels, because I’m a single mom. We live alone, and it’s his, you know, it “It’s fun and exciting,” Thalia said.

That’s when she picked up the phone and called 7 On Your Side. We contacted Uber and although they were unable to collect the original package, they made arrangements for Thalia and her son.

“We received all the items lost in the Uber driver’s car. Everything was replaced as new,” she said.

If you forget something in your Uber, the rideshare company tells you:
– You can report lost items on their app or website
– They have a specialized team dedicated to finding drivers
– But they are independent contractors, so Uber and drivers are not responsible for lost items

As for Preston, he was able to unbox a whole new gaming system.

“I was extremely happy when I got my game back. I was finally able to play after two months of waiting,” he said.

Uber says it can’t guarantee that a contractor has an item or even that it can be immediately returned.

If you suspect a driver is possessing your belongings and intentionally keeping them, he recommends contacting local law enforcement. They will work with authorities and assist in the investigation.
