Josh Brolin will ‘stop acting’ if Denis Villeneuve is snubbed at the Oscars

Josh Brolin threatens to walk away from Hollywood if his “Dune: part two” director Denis Villeneuve is once again snubbed in the Best Director category.

Brolin, who previously expressed himself about Villeneuve not being nominated for the first “Dune” movie in 2022, says Variety that he will “stop playing completely” if the Academy does not recognize Villeneuve for the future.

“If he’s not nominated this year, I’ll stop acting,” Brolin said. “It was a better film than the first. When I watched it, it felt like my brain was cracked open. It’s masterful, and Denis is one of our master filmmakers. If the Oscars have any meaning, they will recognize it.

Villeneuve will be celebrated at IndieWire Honors 2024 and is ready to receive the Tribute to the director at the Gotham Awards. Of course, the Oscar nominations will not be known until after they are revealed in early 2025.

“Dune” landed the second-most nominations at the 94th Academy Awards with 10 nominations, but best director wasn’t among them.

Brolin said in a Twitter video that it was “incredible, almost stupefying, disconcerting” that Villeneuve was not nominated for best director.

“It’s just one of those things where you’re like, ‘Huh?’ What ?!’ Brolin said. “I don’t know how you get 10 nominations and the guy who did the impossible with this book doesn’t get nominated. It makes you realize that this is all amazing and this is totally. stupid. So congratulations on the incredible achievements that these incredibly talented people have been recognized for, because this whole thing is really, really stupid.

Villeneuve recently said Variety that he does not, however, make feature films for the pleasure of the awards.

“As a filmmaker, you are a lone wolf. When your work is appreciated by the community, you feel like you’re part of a family. That’s what really matters to me,” Villeneuve said. “Making films means being away from your family for months. Every time I finish a film, I sit down and wonder if the flame is still there because I will never make a film without that flame in me.

He added that Amy Adams should have been nominated for an Oscar for her turn in the role. 2016 science fiction film “Arrival” saying that this snub was a “big disappointment.” Villeneuve was, however, nominated for Best Director for the feature film.
