Auction could determine whether Alex Jones is kicked off Infowars – NBC New York

Conspiracy theory purveyor Infowars and most of its assets are set to go up for auction on Wednesday, with Alex Jones waiting to see whether he will be allowed to stay or kicked off his online platforms.

The private auction is taking place amid Jones’ personal bankruptcy, which resulted from the nearly $1.5 billion defamation judgment a judge and jurors ordered against the explosive Internet show and radio host to pay the families of the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting for repeatedly telling his audience that the massacre of 20 children and six adults in Connecticut was a hoax staged by crisis actors.

Jones said he thought he could stay at the Infowars studios in Austin, Texas, and continue using his online platforms if his supporters won the auction. But if opponents buy the assets, he said the company could be shut down immediately. He said he created a new studio, new websites and new social media accounts in case that happened.

On his show Tuesday, Jones claimed the auction was “rigged” and that he believed “bad guys” would buy Infowars’ parent company, Free Speech Systems, and its assets. He did not give further details but said he would “just drive down the road” and broadcast to another studio.

Everything from Jones’ studio desk to the Infowars name, video archives, social media accounts and product brands is for sale. Buyers can even purchase an armored truck and video cameras. Unsold items will be auctioned next month.

It is unclear whether the successful bidder(s) will be announced on Wednesday. Jones’ bankruptcy trustee has three business days to disclose that information to a Texas federal court.

Jones, who has since admitted that the Sandy Hook shooting took place, is appealing the defamation verdicts.
