“I come from a great family, but I’ve always had high energy and I’ve always been seen as different, which is part of why I did the dedication ceremony, to claim my difference and be d “Okay with that,” she said.

At 14, Jessica lost her father, a plumber.

“My father’s passing left a big gaping hole in my heart,” she says. “I began to look for value and acceptance through the male gaze. It wasn’t until I was 22 that I realized, “I don’t need to be this uptight person anymore.” I can be whoever I want.

A indicator mentioned to Jessica that she had a gift for reading horoscopes, so she began to expand her knowledge of astrology.

“I worked in sales for years, notably in London, and played an important role in the commercial development of a waste management company,” she explains. “But the corporate sector wasn’t for me. It took my heart and soul and tore me apart. I became super depressed. When I realized I could be anyone I wanted, I chose a crystal-loving hippie! »

She opened an online business Moonchild in 2018, selling crystal water bottles that she imported. This evolved into astrology and tarot card readingsthen eventually, she ended up becoming a mentor.

“Business was taking off,” she recalls.

But in November 2021, Jessica was in trouble: she was in an unhealthy relationship and felt trapped. His Moonchild Facebook page and website were controlled by his partner, who opened them under his name.

“Those were the two platforms that were making money and I couldn’t get on them, and he wouldn’t change them to my name,” Jessica says. “It was a heartbreaking decision to stay in this relationship, which I knew was not good for me, and try to save Moonchild or take back my sovereignty.”

Jessica left her partner but took over the relationship for her business. However, she made another decision: she wanted to get married.

“I didn’t know who I was,” Jessica admits. “I told my partner that to love him I had to love myself first, which he supported. So I created a self-devotion ceremony in front of a mirror to helps bring me back to my heart and soul.”

Her nuptials took place in Auckland’s Riverhead Forest, with dream catchers pinned to pine trees and a friend playing crystal sound bowls. A rug was laid for the aisle and cushions were placed for 14 guests, including her mother, sister and grandmother.

Its celebrant, The Bachelor And The New Zealand bloc Contestant Niki Osborne introduced the excited bride, who was dressed in a green Victoria’s Secret dress from an op shop.

“We discovered a mirror at the end of the altar so I could see myself,” she said. “I invited my friends to choose a crystal of a bowl to put around me, forming a circle of love to pronounce my vows. I could feel the love for myself building. It opened me up so much that I cried.

After taking his vows, which promised to “check in with you to see what you really want before you do anything” and to “know how worthy I am“, Jessica looked in the mirror and put on her ring, adorned with an owl and engraved with the word “devotion.”

“Then we ate delicious cupcakes and sat in this beautiful forest space until dark,” she smiles.

A month later, Jessica finally decided to leave her partner, which also meant losing her beloved business. But she promised to build an even better business. “It wasn’t worth my sanity anymore,” she says.

After experiencing the joy of marriage, Jessica wanted to offer it as a service to other women and began holding group devotional ceremonies. Devotional Witch is born, which sees her working as a “witch guide and best friend”.

She enthuses: “It was just an incredible moment in my life, and if I can help women look in the mirror and love their reflection, that’s incredible. Self-dedication is magical.
