Hyannis woman charged with OUI after hitting parked police car

A 20-year-old unlicensed Hyannis woman was driving drunk early Saturday morning when she crashed into a parked police cruiser in Barnstable, injuring herself and her passenger, police said.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, Barnstable police responded to a home on Lincoln Road in Hyannis for a silent 9-1-1 call. While officers were investigating, a sedan driven by the 20-year-old woman crashed into the empty police car parked on the street.

The driver and her 24-year-old passenger suffered injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to police, and were transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Hyannis Fire Department.

The 20-year-old woman was issued a summons to appear at the hospital for driving under the influence, negligent operation, operating without a license and speeding.

She is expected to be summoned to Barnstable District Court for arraignment on these charges. The incident remains under investigation by the Barnstable Police Department.
