Kristin Chenoweth Endorses Her Vocal Coach’s New Online Singing Class (Exclusive)

  • Eric Vetro, the superstar’s go-to vocal coach, shares his skills in new BBC Maestro course
  • His students Sabrina Carpenter, John Legend and Marissa Janet Winokur appear in the class and give advice to the students.
  • Vetro tells PEOPLE the course has already received Kristin Chenoweth’s seal of approval

Eric Vétro gave singing lessons to Ariana Grande, Angelina Jolie, Katy Perry, Pink, Rosalia, Renee Zellweger, Emma Pierre, Ryan Gosling and other superstars. Now everyone can benefit from his knowledge and wisdom from the comfort of their own home.

The 68-year-old vocal coach recently offered his skills to BBC Maestro Sing Like the Stars Coursean eight-hour video series featuring advice from its star students Sabrina Charpentier, Jean Legend And Marissa Janet Winokur – and for $89, it’s an incredible value.

“In fact, even Kristin Chenoweth texted me and said, ‘I would have loved this when I was really young,'” Vetro tells PEOPLE from his Los Angeles studio.

The course was created after the BBC Maestro team contacted Vetro, who immediately agreed to take part after learning. Marc Ronson, Tim Rice And Bill Laurent were among the previous instructors. “I was like, ‘Stop. You got me at Mark Ronson,'” he recalled. “I was really happy and excited to do it.”

Unlike his usual roster of celebrity students, Vetro relishes the opportunity to share his teachings with a wider audience. “A lot of people either don’t have enough money to take lessons or don’t have access to a singing teacher,” he says.

“They may not have time to go to classes because they work all day or because they take care of their children. But either late at night or early in the morning, they can so do it. They can do it in private, they don’t have to worry about anyone listening to them,” adds Vetro. “I just thought, ‘You know, this could be really helpful for people.'”

At one point during the process, the BBC Maestro team asked if he would be able to have Carpenter appear as a guest for a Q&A session with the students on camera. Initially, he thought there was no chance the “Espresso” singer would have time.

“I wasn’t even going to ask her, and then I was like, ‘Well, I’ve known her since she was 12. I love her. We have a great relationship,'” says Vetro, who eventually contacted.

“She said, ‘I have this free time on Sunday.’ I hated taking her leave, but she seemed willing and happy to do it,” he adds. “Even until she walked in the door, I was like, ‘How can she do this? She’s exhausted. She has so much to do,’ and I was very grateful.”

Legend also hosts a Q&A session with students in the course, while Winokur talks about her time as Tracy Turnblad in Lacquer on Broadway in a section on interpreting a character’s specific voice. It goes without saying that anyone who takes the course benefits from comprehensive vocal training.

About a month after the release of the BBC Maestro course, Vetro has already received feedback from satisfied participants. “I met someone last night at a concert. Someone came up to me and said, ‘I love your class. I’m a singer and I get so much out of it'”, he explains. “That was good to hear.”

Complete with over 100 vocal exercises for different ranges as well as dozens of pages of lesson notes to accompany the videos, Vetro’s course is the longest in the BBC Maestro series to date. “We worked really hard on this,” he says.

Most importantly, the vocal coach doesn’t want anyone to feel too intimidated to take their class. “It’s about whether your aspirations are to be a pop star, or a musical theater star, or just to sing better at karaoke, or whether you’re a songwriter,” says Vetro. “I just want it to be for anyone who wants to improve their voice.”
