I Just Watched One of Hallmark’s Worst Christmas Movies… Until It Revealed Its Stunning Ending

Since 2016, I have watched the majority of shows new Christmas movies that Hallmark releases every year. I enjoy meeting people, different holiday activities, decorations and of course fake (or only semi-fake) snow. However, one thing I learned is that Not All Hallmark Holiday Movies Are Made Equallyand I just watched one that was absolutely cringe-inducing – until it changed things up with a cute twist at the end.

I happened to put it on Santa Claus, tell me last night with my Peacock Plus Subscriptionand I was delighted. This film stars two When the heart calls actors, reuniting lead Erin Krakow with her former love Daniel Lissing. Obviously, they have chemistry. It was going to be great!

Why Santa Tell Me Was Truly One of the Worst Iconic Christmas Movies

There are two types of bad Hallmark movies. The first are the low-budget films that Hallmark puts together with relatively unknown leads and scripts with the lowest common denominator possible. These are normally bad and are often more fun to hate than to watch comfortably. I want to be clear, this is not the type of film Santa Claus, tell me was.

The second type of bad Hallmark movie is one that should be good: it has a great cast with Hallmark notables, it clearly spent a little more money budget-wise, and may even have a nice conceit, but for a reason whatever, this is simply not the case. come together well. This is the kind of bad Hallmark movie Santa Claus, tell me was.

Before I get into this film, I want to be clear: bringing Erink Krakow and Daniel Lissing together was a smart decision. The additional casting of Benjamin Ayres, Kurt Szarka, and Christopher Russell was solid. The general idea is cute. A young woman asked Santa to help her find true love when she was a child and 25 years later, Santa helps her with her wish list through a series of notes and some meddling that leads several men named Nick in her life.

My big problem was that I hated the way this movie was made. At least until I got to the final scenes of the film. Let me explain.

The story really didn’t make any sense and the ratings kept changing. Obviously, given that the plot is about a grown woman opening notes from 25-year-old Santa, there has to be an element of suspended disbelief, but I had a lot of issues with the way the story Olivia was set up with four possible guys. options, and the way Santa’s notes were constantly changing to adapt to what was happening. This brought me to a conclusion that left me feeling like Santa’s notes made no sense, and while a twist ending fixes that (more on that later), all the time, I was very confused and somehow not into how the plot ultimately played out on screen.

I had a little trouble supporting Olivia and her sister. At one point, her sister broke an item at a store and then hid it so she wouldn’t get in trouble or have to pay for the item. I understand that people are complex and have both good and bad in them, but this really accidentally bothered me. Olivia is also dating three people at once and she doesn’t openly tell any of them, and of course, they’re upset when they find out! She’s also not particularly nice to her boss, and while that’s supposed to be a reason they later bond as romantic interests, a lot of these moments mortified me as a viewer.

There’s a montage of a date with Olivia that highlights why this movie wasn’t made well. As viewers, we’re supposed to believe that Olivia is on a three-week (or so) deadline with the home renovation project underway with her new boss Chris, but we see her having a myriad of appointments with three different guys during a montage. Meanwhile, nothing happens in the house in the meantime. Normally a montage is used to show time passing, but the opposite happened here. It just confused me as to how much time was passing and when Olivia was fitting in on all these dates with all these men.

Let me talk about the wine poured. This one is kind of funny, because it’s a common trope in Hallmark movies that the wine being poured is hysterically large. This was also true in Santa Claus, tell mebut this film goes even further. Olivia and her sister drink together and discuss Olivia’s love life. Her sister Darcy already has a full glass of wine and as Olivia leaves, she decides to top it off. This probably didn’t bother anyone but me, but it seemed like another example of this film making a poor editing choice.

Along the same lines, there was also a scene where Olivia and Chris drink wine together to “celebrate” the end of the house renovation, then they decide to leave and go do another activity to ” celebrate “. You guys were already partying! You don’t need a second activity.

Obviously I had some issues with the way this film was put together and edited despite the good acting performances, but the ending changed things a bit for me.

The ending of Santa Tell Me wraps things up with a neat little bow

So one of my biggest problems with Santa Claus, tell me had to do with the fact that Santa’s original note to Olivia mentioned that she would fall in love with a man named Nick. That’s why all the men she met were named Nick. But ultimately, this movie continued to push Olivia towards her boss Chris, which made me feel a little suspicious about Santa’s motivations, honestly!

Well, it turns out –and major spoilers for the film’s twists and turns if you’re reading this and haven’t watched it yet – Chris is another one of those men whose first name is actually Nick, but he chooses to go by his middle name. When Chris and Olivia meet at the train station to apologize at the end of the film, the station announces his name and a realization dawns on Olivia’s face. This moment was an unexpected payoff and worked for me on many levels, as I went into the final scene thinking Santa had completely messed with Olivia and didn’t get it right. HAS. All.

Does this great little final twist forgive everything I’ve watched before? No, but obviously many of you Hallmark viewers felt differently about this movie because it has a high audience score of 7.6 on IMDB. It’s hard to say whether the premise, the twist, or the combined love of Lissing and Krakow was enough to make people happy when the movie premiered on Hallmark this past weekend, but I certainly hope that both actors will have a chance to meet. next Hallmark movie it’s as well put together as something like It was always you.
