Traffic heading towards Sunday New England Patriots the game will be heavier than normal from fans taking the 495 to Route 1.

Multiple lanes were closed on Highway 1 northbound in Wrentham following a two-vehicle crash in the middle of the road.

Traffic on Route 1 has already been modified in anticipation of fans traveling to Sunday’s game at Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots are scheduled to face the Los Angeles Rams at 1 p.m. ET.

The accident happened outside the Arbor Inn Motel in Wrentham, just south of the Shell station. Expect stopped traffic heading north on Route 1 heading to the game.

This will affect fans who typically take 495 South to Route 1 to get to the game. Fans taking 95 South to Route 1 South should not be affected. Backups following the crash caused traffic to be stopped on 495 South as vehicles attempted to access Route 1.

Traffic is generally heavy in the hours before and after the match. Police had already changed the traffic pattern to allow three northbound lanes instead of the normal two.

The police presence around the accident resulted in the closure of two northbound lots. Meanwhile, the single southbound lane was closed, with traffic directed to the breakdown lane.

Around 11 a.m., tow trucks arrived on scene. But with traffic only getting worse in the coming hours, travel to Sunday’s game at Foxborough is expected to be heavier than normal.
