First, while we don’t want to rule out any team before a map has even been played, it’s very likely that the Falcons are the worst team in the league. This is not a disrespect to them: they will be aware of the narrative around them and know that they will be facing players who have been in the league for years.

But it works out perfectly for Clay because he now has a great foundation to build on. A team of four players about to embark on their dream together and who already have great chemistry – all he needs to do is pass on his wisdom of over a decade to them, and the only way is up.

He can specifically mold them into the players they need to be and completely change their trajectory in the league.

If he can help them climb the ladder, Clayster immediately becomes one of the most in-demand and respected trainers in Call of Duty, and given the modest expectations, the pressure to perform is much less than before. he was joining someone like world champions OpTic Texas or Atlanta FaZe.

Second, and perhaps by extension of the previous point, it allows Clay to find his coaching style, something he will need to refine over time and understand what works and what doesn’t.

Better yet, because of the team’s situation, it’s a bigger challenge than if he had just started coaching a winning team with players he already has a great relationship with.

In a Twitch Stream After the announcement, Clay said, “Being able to work with guys who maybe don’t know me that well but still have some respect for me being as accomplished as I am in COD, I think it will be a little easier to coach them. They will listen more to what I say. But I have to be more careful about what I say. I need to make sure I don’t just throw up. I have to make sure that when I speak, I am actually right in what I say.

He added that he’s “basically coached all of his teams” over the past couple of years, just playing, but this obviously presents a new challenge and exactly the kind he was looking for.

While there are naysayers and critics who think Clay made a poor choice here, if you just take a look at the context and the opportunity this presents, you’ll realize that this might actually be the perfect next step for Clay.

Now, only time will tell if he can become one of the (very few) great Call of Duty trainers.
