Braves named top picks for five of MLB’s top free agents

Jim Bowden recently released his top 45 free agents for this year’s class, naming the best team fits for each player as well as contract projections.. The Braves were named the best team for five of those players. Let’s break them down.

Max Frit

Bowden’s best teams for Max Fried are the Braves, Mets, Orioles and Red Sox. I expect all of these teams to be involved, but the Dodgers were a shocking omission. Their starting pitching hasn’t been up to par this year. Even with Shohei Ohtani expected to return to the mound next year, it would be shocking if Los Angeles – Fried’s hometown team – wasn’t involved in the bid this offseason. San Diego is another team to watch in Southern California. They’re never afraid to make a splash and must feel like they’re on the verge of a breakthrough after losing to the Dodgers in five games in the NLDS. I also wouldn’t count out the Philadelphia Phillies after Alex Anthopoulos hit a home run Aaron Nola last winter.

Blake Snell

The Braves were mentioned alongside the Yankees, Orioles, Mets and Giants as the best team for Blake Snell, who could be a nice consolation prize for teams not looking to give a starting pitcher a contract. six or seven years like this. Max Fried will probably need it. The Braves, in particular, are hesitant to make these kinds of deals, but they aren’t afraid to gamble on shorter contracts. Snell was throwing as well as any pitcher on the planet late in the season, and probably won’t be as expensive as Fried.

Willy Adamès

Bowden’s top picks for Willy Adames are the Braves, Dodgers and Brewers. I imagine many other teams will be involved, but if the Dodgers really want it, it’s very unlikely they’ll be outbid, which is bad news for the Braves, who desperately need to upgrade at shortstop. Orlando Arcia. Adames would be a great fit in Atlanta.

Charlie Morton

If the Braves are missing guys like Max Fried and Blake Snell, bringing back Charlie Morton should be an option if he decides to play one more year. I don’t imagine he has any plans to play anywhere else, which is why Bowden only included the Braves as his top team for the soon-to-be 41-year-old pitcher.

Matthew Boyd

Boyd showed signs of turning around his career in Cleveland this season, posting a 2.72 ERA over eight regular-season starts and then allowing just one run in three postseason starts. He’s a very promising arm who should be looking for a one-year deal this offseason, which fits perfectly up Alex Anthopoulos’ alley.
