La Liga postpones Valencia vs Real Madrid due to deadly floods

La Liga has officially postponed this weekend’s clash between Valencia and Real Madrid due to the DANA natural disaster.

Torrential rains have caused severe flooding across southeastern Spain, killing more than 90 people and the death toll continues to rise 24 hours later. The tragedy prompted Valencia to ask La Liga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to move its next match against Real Madrid.

Los Blancos were due to travel to Valencia and play at the Mestalla Stadium on Saturday November 2, but the RFEF announcement on October 31 that the match will actually be postponed.

Valencia responded to the decision in a club statement. “The club appreciates the commendable work of the emergency services, as well as the understanding of LALIGA, the Royal Spanish Football Federation, CP Parla Escuela – Fair Play and Real Madrid, who have shown all the sensitivity in postponing our matches in the face of the serious consequences of this emergency situation.

Alongside the Valencia match, Villarreal’s clash against Rayo Vallecano has also been postponed, as has Levante’s match against Malaga in Liga 2. In Liga F, Real Madrid’s match against Levante on November 3 has also been postponed.
