The first round of the WPIAL playoffs is over and several upsets took place across the Beaver Valley that highlighted the first week of what will be the next few exciting weeks of high school football.

WPIAL Football Playoff First Round Results

Aliquippa 34, Trinity 14

The Quips advance to the WPIAL Class 4A semifinals as they cruise past Trinity with a balanced offensive outing. With Penn State senior running back Tiqwai Hayes healthy, he rushed 22 times for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Junior quarterback Marques Council Jr. also went on a pace of 7 of 15 throws for 147 yards, connecting with Qalil Goode and Antonio Reddic for a pair of touchdowns. Aliquippa will now face Thomas Jefferson next Friday in the semifinals at a site and time to be determined.

South Side Beaver 39, Jefferson-Morgan 30

The Rams pulled off an upset against Tri-County South Conference champion Jefferson-Morgan. AC Corfield rushed 24 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns while Amare Moman rushed nine times for 28 yards and a touchdown. As a team, the Rams totaled 218 rushing yards. Defensively, the team picked off Rockets quarterback Houston Guesman twice. South Side will now face Bishop Canevin next week in the Class 1A quarterfinals at a site and time to be determined.

Thomas Jefferson 28, West Allegheny 7

West Allegheny’s season ended in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class 4A playoffs as Thomas Jefferson used a strong rushing attack to defeat West Allegheny. Brock Cornell capped his high school football career by rushing nine times for 90 yards, scoring the team’s only points of the game with a 70-yard run in the third quarter. The Jaguars were successful on the field as a team, they ran for over 350 yards.

Clairton 56, Rochester 0

Western Beaver Vs. Carlynton (Saturday November 2, 1 p.m.)

WPIAL Class 2A and 3A first round opponents revealed

In Class 2A, Ellwood City will face South Allegheny on November 8 at Helling Stadium.

As for Class 3A, Beaver Area will have a rematch with Avonworth on Nov. 8 after the Antelopes beat Greensburg Salem 43-27. The Bobcats and Avonworth faced off on Pat Tarquinio Field on October 25, with Beaver Area winning the game. by a score of 34-14.

Central Valley will face Freeport next week at Sarge Alberts Stadium in the quarterfinals after the Yellow Jackets defeated Mt. Pleasant 44-20.
